The “Gedenkstätte Bergen-Belsen” (English Translation: Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp Documentation Centre) shows the events in Bergen-Belsen, Wietzendorf and Oerbke in a permanent exhibition. It tells the history of this sate from its beginnings of a shanty town for construction workers, through the prisoner-of-war camps and the later Bergen-Belsen concentration camp up until to the liberation of the camp by the British army. It also documents the establishment of the Belsen DP camp for displaced persons (DP) on the adjacent barracks grounds in Belsen. Part of the documentation centre is also dedicated to post-war justice.
